CAMOGIE: 2021 SportsDaz Team of the Year – Day 1 Results

The opening round of the 2021 SportsDaz Camogie Team of the Year is over with plenty of surprises and intriguing results as the 48 defenders were cut down to 25. (Day 1 Poll Toppers (l-r) – Ciara Donohue, Aoife Dunne and Sinéad Furlong)

It was a Wexford 1-2-3 in the polling as Aoife Dunne topped the poll with 65.5% in her quarter-final followed by Ciara Donohue (61.7%) and Sinead Furlong (61.5%).

Wexford secured semi-final spots for six defenders with Galway coming next with five qualifiers.  Antrim and Kilkenny have four places; while Cork and Tipperary see three names each advance.

Galway’s Caitriona Cormican and Tipperary’s Karen Kennedy were joint 24th on 17.9% in the same quarter-final.  As there was no criteria yet to separate them, both advance to the semi-finals.

That means there will be three semis with three players each, and four with four players each.

Among the shock eliminations were Galway’s Emma Helebert, Cork’s Laura Hayes and Kilkenny’s Meighean Farrell (both 0.3% short) and Cork’s Laura Treacy.

The defenders are back in action again on Wednesday (3rd November) on twitter when the 25 remaining are whittled down to 12.

Keep an eye out on twitter today (Tuesday, 2nd November) as the 48 forwards begin their campaign in their respective quarter-finals.
