CAMOGIE: SportsDaz Asking Listeners And Followers To Help Pick Our 2021 Team Of The Year
Just like we did in the football recently, Sportsdaz.ie is asking our listeners and followers to help us pick our 202`1 Camogie Team of the Year.
We have compiled 120 names spread across 18 counties from the senior, intermediate and junior championships, and the Nancy Murray Cup and next week (1st – 5th November), we will bring that figure down to 15.
Through our twitter polls every day, people can vote for their favourite player to advance from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals, and then to the final while we’ll also use the total poll to determine our Player of the Year.
Will All-Ireland senior champions Galway dominate? Can Antrim intermediates or Wexford juniors stake a big claim for places? Who’ll come through from the Nancy Murray Cup to make our overall team? You decide!
We have some surprises in our selection below. And no doubt, we’ll have some controversial omissions in our final draft of 120 players (8 Goalkeepers, 48 Defenders, 16 Midfielders, 48 Forwards).
Ther are five players from our 2020 team – Meadh Cahalane, Hannah Looney, Katrina Mackey, 2020 Player of the Year Amy O’Connor (all Cork), and Grace Walsh (Kilkenny).
Kilkenny lead the nominations with 22 players between their senior and intermediate sides; ahead of All-Ireland senior champions Galway who have 19 representatives from their two inter county adult teams.
Senior finalists Cork have 12; Antrim and Wexford have 11 players each; with Tipperary sitting on 10.
Derry have 6; Meath and Waterford 5; and Armagh, Mayo, Offaly and Roscommon have 3 players each.
Clare and Limerick are on 2; with Down, Kerry and Roscommon have one player each.
So keep an eye out from Monday and make sure your favourite players stay in contention to be named on the 2021 SportsDaz Camogie Team of the Year!
