The opening round of the 2020 SportsDaz Camogie Team of the Year is over with plenty of surprises and intriguing results as the 48 defenders were cut down to 24.
Galway’s Heather Cooney topped the poll with 54.6% in her quarter-final followed by Cork’s Hannah Looney, Kilkenny’s Grace Walsh & Meath’s Louise Donoghue.
Galway secured semi-final sports for all six defenders with Kilkenny coming next with five qualifiers. Down took four spots; followed by Cork and Meath with three each; Cavan have two going through with Wexford also represented.
Among the shock eliminations were Cork’s Laura Hayes (just 0.1% short), Kilkenny’s Michelle Teehan, Waterford’s Lorraine Bray and Clare’s Niamh O’Dea.
The defenders are back in action again on Wednesday (3rd March) on twitter when the 24 remaining are whittled down to 12.
Keep an eye out on twitter on Tuesday as the 48 forwards begin their campaign in their respective quarter-finals.
