Day Two of the 2020 SportsDaz Ladies Football Team of the Year is over with plenty of surprises and intriguing results as the 49 forwards were cut down to 24.
Armagh’s Aimee Mackin and Limerick’s Amy Ryan were joint poll toppers with 71.2% in their quarter-finals and they were followed by Meath duo Vikki Wall and Emma Duggan.
Meath came top with four qualifiers for the semi-finals; one ahead of Armagh, Dublin and Wicklow with three each.
Cork, Kerry and Kildare secured two slots into the next round; while Carlow, Galway, Limerick, Tipperary and Roscommon also enjoyed success.
Among the shock eliminations were Fermanagh duo Joanne Doonan and Eimear Smyth (both junior player of the year nominees); Dublin’s Noelle Healy; Cork trio Saoirse Noonan, Aine Terry O’Sullivan & Ciara O’Sullivan; and Mayo AFL stars Grace Kelly and Sarah Rowe.
The forwards are back in action again on Thursday (18th February) on twitter when the 24 remaining are whittled down to 12.
Keep an eye out on twitter on Wednesday for the midfield quarter-finals (16 become 8) and the defender semi-finals (24 become 12).
