PODCAST: The Third Half (Tuesday, 12th April 2022)

Darren Kelly, Killian Whelan and Niamh Kindlon present this special episode of ‘The Third Half’ looking back at the Littlewoods Ireland National Camogie League Finals, and the Lidl Ireland National Football League Finals in Croke Park.

Schedule:

  • Galway vs Cork (Division 1 Camogie) – 0:00
  • Wexford vs Antrim (Division 2 Camogie) – 38:30
  • Meath vs Donegal (Division 1 Football) – 1:02:10
  • Kerry vs Armagh (Division 2 Football) – 1:23:20

Before we chat about Galway’s victory over Cork in the Division 1 Camogie Final, we ask why was there such a poor attendance on Saturday and is it worth it being in Croke Park for camogie league finals?

It took time to get going but when the game exploded, it was a thrilling battle with three quality goals before Galway’s bench reigned supreme.

Yellow cards were the talking point in the Division 2 Final but three Wexford goals ensured them success over an Antrim side that took time to get used to playing senior opposition.  Were the Saffrons hard done by in the first half or have they been given plenty to think about leading into the summer?

In football, Meath have taken the mantle as the country’s top dogs as they won a first Division 1 league title.  They were brilliant at the start but let their opponents back in.  And will Donegal have major regrets for taking so long to get going against the All-Ireland champions?

Finally, a great day for Kerry who make it third time lucky with Division 2 silverware.  We praise their performance but ask why Armagh faded in the final stretch?  And yes, there’s yellow card discussions to be had from both football games.

And we haven’t forgotten about massive wins for Cavan, Mayo and Offaly in camogie!
